Paris, a vibrant city
Paris remains one of the most exciting music cities in the world, a multicultural melting pot where influences from around the globe have inspired myriad music scenes. Famous as one of the most exciting jazz destinations in the post-war 1950s with many of the greats regularly playing, Paris also spearheaded the house music revolution in the mid 1990s, and has become a home for the dominant French rap sound of recent years. It remains as eclectic and electrifying as ever, constantly pushing the boundaries, but where to visit to experience the magic of music if you’re heading to the French capital?
If you want to watch the biggest names in music in an incredible venue then the AccorHotels Arena is the place to check. With everyone from Ariana Grande to David Guetta playing throughout 2019, it’s the premier venue for superstars, both local and overseas.
Having experienced today’s giants of music, you might want to witness the next generation. For fresh talent, then head to L’International, which has a strong focus on new French live acts. It’s often a very mixed bill, with rock one night and pop the next, so it’s a place to visit if you’re open to checking out something different and exciting.
For late-night partying and to experience some of the city’s best DJs, then take a trip to Concrete, which rocks all weekend with a giant-sized soundsystem and energised atmosphere. It prides itself on its local resident DJs, who complement the best dance music talent from around the globe.
A city for every music taste
To get an eclectic and vibrant summer music fix, then We Love Green is the music festival for you. A line-up that moves from rock to hip-hop, from dance music to romantic pop, this is an incredible two-day event that’s also been acclaimed by its attempts to make music festivals more environmentally conscious. Arriving early June, it is an amazing party drawing the best of the global music scene.
Later in the same month, Paris also becomes a highly inclusive home for music on the streets, with the world-famous Fête de la musique event, which encourages people to stage performances in all manner of urban environments. Sounds from around the globe are to be found everywhere you look, and there are plenty of opportunities for musicians of all talents to get involved too.
While in the city, you might want to pick up some records by local acts, or just dig the crates for some rare gems. Superfly Records is a place that truly celebrates music, both in its purest form and also in terms of physical artefacts, with all kinds of beautiful vinyls in its collection. It’s in a bustling area of the city and with amazing soul, funk and hip-hop always pounding from the stereo, it’s a wonderful and vibrant record shop to explore.
Paris has an incredible passion for music, and these are just a small taster of the many places to feel the beat of this magical city.
